Flag Football

This unit is intended to teach students the fundamentals and skills of flag football. During this unit, students are to learn the skills, as well as the rules and regulations of the game of flag football. Students will also be able to see how important lifelong fitness is for their health. By the end of the unit, students will be able to see how they can play flag football to increase their fitness, improve their skills, work as a team, and have fun at the same time.

Enduring Understanding:
  • In order to play football, a basic knowledge of the rules is required.
  • On offense, it is important to know when and where to run. It is also important to anticipate where players will be, in order to effectively move the ball down the field. On defense, it is important to know how to position yourself relative to the person you are covering.
  • Individual skills can be improved and corrected by self or by peer/teacher observation and feedback.
  • Touch/flag football is a social lifelong activity where sportsmanship and fair play are key.
Essential Questions:
  • Which fundamental skill of football is most important for my personal improvement?
  • What is the best offensive play in a given situation? What is the best defensive play in a given situation?
  • What are the common skill execution errors for each of the fundamental skills of football?
  • How can one ensure that sportsmanship and fair play are demonstrated during a recreational football match?
  • How may we optimize our performance as a team?

Have a look at the following brief video. I like the way the defense is working let alone the option taking by the quarterbacks.

  1. I think we all did a great job in the Flag Football unit! My wheel was pretty good but had some rough sides that I am looking forward to working on so my Health Wheel will run smoothly
